  • An Encoder System: Inside the thimble and spindle assembly, there’s usually a high-resolution optical or capacitive encoder. This encoder precisely measures the rotational movement of the thimble and the corresponding linear movement of the spindle.
  • Microprocessor: A small internal microprocessor converts the encoder’s signals into a numerical value.
  • LCD Display: The numerical measurement is shown instantly on a clear liquid crystal display.
Description

A digital micrometer screw gauge is a precision measuring instrument that builds upon the fundamental principles of the traditional analog micrometer but replaces the manual scale reading with an electronic digital display. This provides faster, easier, and less error-prone measurements, often with even higher precision than a standard analog micrometer.

How it Works:

Like an analog micrometer, it relies on a precision screw and nut mechanism. As the thimble is rotated, a spindle moves linearly. However, instead of reading engraved scales, the digital micrometer incorporates:

Key Parts of a Digital Micrometer Screw Gauge:

  1. Frame (C-frame): The rigid, C-shaped body that provides stability and holds all components. Often made of hardened steel or cast iron, sometimes with an insulating grip.
  2. Anvil: The fixed measuring face at one end of the frame against which the object is rested.
  3. Spindle: The movable measuring face, opposite the anvil, that moves in and out as the thimble is rotated.
  4. Sleeve (or Barrel): A stationary part that houses the spindle. On a digital micrometer, it may still have a rudimentary main scale (like an analog one) for quick visual reference or as a backup, but the primary reading comes from the digital display.
  5. Thimble: The rotating part connected to the spindle. It moves over the sleeve.
  6. Ratchet Stop (or Friction Thimble): Located at the end of the thimble, it ensures consistent, light measuring pressure by clicking or slipping once the correct force is applied, preventing overtightening and ensuring repeatable measurements.
  7. Lock Nut (or Locking Clamp): A mechanism to lock the spindle in place once a measurement has been taken, preventing the reading from changing.
  8. LCD Display: The numerical readout screen, typically showing values to or .
